Coiled Tubing Unit

A Coiled Tubing Unit (CTU) is a self-contained, mobile hydraulic system used to intervene in live oil and gas wells without killing them. It features a large reel of flexible, continuous steel pipe, an injector head for inserting pipe, a control cabin, and a power pack. Key applications include wellbore cleanout, stimulation (acidizing), nitrogen services, and logging.

Core Components

Key Applications and Benefits

  • Live Well Intervention: Enables operations while the well is under pressure, reducing the need for costly kill fluids.

  • Versatility: Used for fishing, drilling, plugging, abandonment, and fluid displacement.

  • Efficiency: Faster rig-up and operation times compared to conventional service rigs.

  • Coiled Tubing Drilling (CTD): Used for drilling in both shallow and, with specialized units, deeper, more complex environments.
